Annual General Meeting Reminder

Dear Members,

A reminder that we are holding our AGM on Saturday 20 Oct 2012, starting at 4:30 pm. The location is the same as last year:

SVI Rangers 3498 Luxton Rd, off Happy Valley Rd in Langford.

Same hall as last year, as you enter the premises turn left at the main building, drive over the bridge and continue to the second building.

As we are planning pizza & pop after the meeting, we need to know how much to order and are looking for an RSVP. Please let me know by noon on Wednesday 17 November - Contact Klaus Kreye (thanks to those that have already replied). It will be free for members and we will be seeking a $5 contribution per non member.

As our club continues to grow, we appreciate that there are more members north of the Malahat that might not be able to make the AGM. If you can't make it, we would nevertheless welcome your input. We'd like to hear from you: tell us what you like, which rides work well, which rides/events should be dropped and of course any suggestions for new events.

Volunteers to organise events or just being an organising contact for an event are always appreciated. It's actually quite easy and not that much work.

Any agenda items are welcome.

Thanks!

Klaus

BBQ Pictures and Thoughts

Today's cool weather didn't stop too many from making the trip out to Liberty Road in Metchosin to enjoy Klaus's hospitality, Conrad's burgers and a tasty ice cream for dessert. Thanks to everyone for the great atmosphere!

In my wandering amongst the crowd without a network connection for my ubiquitous iPad, I came across a couple questions in our discussions. If we're still curious...

  • The German word for the driveshaft traditionally found in BMW motorcycles is Kardanwelle, named for the Italian renaissance mathematician Gerolamo Cardano.
  • The custom-made leather seats found on a few BMWRVI members' bikes are the creation of Rich's Custom Seats.

The next scheduled BMWRVI get-together is the September 9 Monthly Gathering at the Pioneer House in Duncan. Maybe we'll see you there!

Salt Spring Inn Breakfast, Sunday, July 12

Hello Beemer Riders,

This month's Breakfast will be on Saltspring Island at the Salt Spring Inn, 132 Lower Ganges Road.

There are two options for the trip to the Salt Spring Inn.

The first is go via the Swartz Bay terminal, meeting at the Ferry Terminal to board the 09:00 Ferry to Saltspring.

The second will be to go via Crofton, meeting at the ferry terminal to board the 08:40 am sailing.  To coordinate arrival at the Salt Spring Inn, those taking the Crofton sailing should tour the island or walk Ganges so they arrive at the Inn about 09:40. A sample route from the Vesuvius terminal to the Inn is:

1.    Get on Vesuvius Bay Rd

2.    Turn left onto Sunset Dr

3.    At Southey Point Rd, N End Rd, and Sunset Dr junction Turn right onto N End Rd

4.    Turn left onto N Beach Rd

5.    At Walker's Hook Rd, N Beach Rd, and Fernwood Rd junction continue straight on Walker's Hook Rd

6.    Turn left onto Robinson Rd

7.    Turn left onto Upper Ganges Rd

8.    Turn left onto Lower Ganges Rd

9.    Salt Spring Inn

This will get you there about 9:30, so stretch your legs.

If you want to meet elsewhere and ride together to one of the departure points, please let me know a meeting place and time so I can let others know. Examples might be Duncan, Nanaimo, and a Victoria run across the Malahat to Crofton.

To help with the planning, I ask that you let me know if you are attending the ride and which departure point you are planning to use.  Please let me know by Thursday, August 9.
